What is a podcast?

A podcast is an mp3 or video file that can be downloaded and played on a computer or portable media device. Individual podcasts appear as episodes that are updated periodically. By subscribing to our podcast you can receive automatic updates. You can also listen to podcast episodes on this page. To subscribe, you must have podcasting software installed on your computer such as iTunes or Juice. For more information, see the iTunes Podcast FAQ.

How do I listen to a podcast?

If you would like to listen to our podcast right away you can hear a sample by clicking on the "play" button above. If you would like to play the podcast later or take it on the road, you will first need to subscribe to and download the podcast using the subscription software on your computer, such as iTunes. Then you will have to transfer the podcast file to your portable media device. We recommend the following subscription software for the best user experience:

Plant Adaptogens in Modern Medicine

• Dr. Mahtab Jafari is an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Undergraduate Program at the University of California at Irvine. Dr. Jafari’s current research focus is on the anti-aging properties of botanical extracts and their impact on the health and lifespan of fruit flies. She is also studying the mechanism(s) of action of these botanical extracts and evaluating their effects on various aging pathways, such as mitochondrial bioenergetics and related oxidative stress, as well as nutrient signaling pathways. Ultimately, her research goals are to slow the process of aging and improve human health while extending lifespan.
